  Weekly Update December 18, 2023 12/18 We have art. 12/19 We have Media Center 12/20 Late Start  School will start at 9:25.   12/21 We have   gym. 12/22 We will attend a concert at SJHS. Word Work: This week, second graders will be reviewing the syllable patterns we have learned so far this year.  There will not be a list coming home but students can access Spelling City and practice Unit 1 through Unit 11 words.  Please remember our standard indicates students should be able to recognize and read the patterns. Vacation Reading: Our second graders are excited to continue their reading during our winter break. I will be sending home a Winter Break Reading Bingo and reading log this week to be completed during our break if your family chooses to do so.  If not, please help your child maintain his/her reading stamina by continuing to read 15 - 20 minutes nightly during our vacation from school.  Many students are reading much more th...

  Weekly Update December 11, 2023 12/11 We have art. 12/12 We have gym. 12/13 Late Start  School will start at 9:25.   12/14 We have   music. 12/15 We have Media Center.                 Word Work: Our class will be learning about the r-controlled /ar/  syllable pattern this week. Our syllable pattern makes the sound as in  beware, rarely, and prairie.    Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week.   Extra Outwear Bags:  Please put snow pants, hats, etc. in your childś book bag if they are not worn to school.  Snow pants and coats are hung on hooks.  Backpacks will soon be located on the floor so there is not extra room for other bags.  Thank you SEL: P...

Our syllable pattern will show up in words like learn, girl, turn.  Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns. Winter Parties We are looking forward to our winter party happening on December 22nd.  The party will start after lunch at 1:40 and last an hour.  We do not have a parent heading this up so my thought is to run it similar to the Halloween party where we will have a snack station and then 3 stations that are craft...
