Word Work: This week, second graders will be reviewing the syllable patterns we have learned so far this year.  There will not be a list coming home but students can access Spelling City and practice Unit 1 through Unit 11 words.  Please remember our standard indicates students should be able to recognize and read the patterns.


Vacation Reading: Our second graders are excited to continue their reading during our winter break. I will be sending home a Winter Break Reading Bingo and reading log this week to be completed during our break if your family chooses to do so.  If not, please help your child maintain his/her reading stamina by continuing to read 15 - 20 minutes nightly during our vacation from school.  Many students are reading much more than the required 15 minutes and learning to make reading a natural part of their day.  We appreciate your support.


Math Fact Vacation Practice: Students have been working hard to learn their addition/subtraction facts through 20. Continued practice is necessary throughout break for most students.

 

Lexia Core 5, IXL, RAZ, and Spelling City are available during winter break to maintain your child’s skill level.  A few minutes of practice periodically throughout our vacation can help your child feel confident when he/she returns to school in January.

Word Work : This week your child will learn words that have the long-o digraph pattern.  This rule includes words like moon, snow, bowl, soak, and hoe.   The words can be found on Spelling City to practice.  Please remember to use the list that comes home to practice reading words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled.  Please do not feel your child should be able to spell all the words on this list.
