Weekly Update
August 28, 2023
ICE CREAM SOCIAL AND THE WEEK AHEAD: Thank you to everyone who was able to come out into the heat wave to meet me during the ice cream social. I am very excited for our first week in second grade! I look forward to all the great learning ahead of us. Thank you for sharing your child and being a part of our Lincoln School Family.
ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL: Our class will come into the building and exit the building (if a walker or car rider) through the South door (door that faces the car drop off line. Please remember we will not be eating breakfast in the room this year so if your child is having breakfast, they will go straight to the lunch room between 8:10-8:30. In addition our special begins at 8:45 so we will quickly put our stuff away and head to the appropriate room. If your child arrives late, they should plan on going to whatever special is happening that day.
SNACK TIME: We will have a snack every morning after recess. This will be a working snack so please send healthy, easy to eat food. If it requires a spoon, please include that. I will have pretzels available if your child does not have anything to eat. Finally due to our new carpet, only water will be permitted in water bottles. Let me know if you have any questions.
DISMISSAL PLAN: Please make sure your child knows your family's after-school plan.
If a bus rider, which bus does your child ride?
If a walker, is someone meeting him or her at a designated spot?
Car riders will follow the protocol shared by Mrs. Knuth.
Thank you for helping your child feel confident and safe with your after-school plan.
RECESS AND LUNCH SCHEDULE...
10:20 - 10:35 AM Recess
12:40 - 1:05 Lunch with 3rd Grade
1:05 - 1:30 Lunch Recess
2:45 - 3:00 PM Recess
GET TO KNOW YOU SURVEY: If you have not already done so, please be sure to complete the Get To Know You Survey. The information that it provides is helpful in ensuring your child receives the best support possible this school year. Thank you for your time!
NIGHTLY READING: Students are expected to read every night. Students are expected to read for 10 minutes each night this week. If you have been reading throughout the summer and your child's reading stamina is greater than 10 minutes, please continue your routine. The goal for second grade is for all children to read independently for a minimum of 20 minutes. They should be able to read fluently, retell the information, and answer a variety of questions accurately at their reading level.
