Word Work: This week, your child will be learning words that follow the closed syllable rule.  This short vowel rule includes words like hat, shop, spend, chin, and gum.  A list of words will come home to practice on Monday.  Students may read the words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled.  Please do not feel your child should be able to spell all the words on this list. Words following this pattern can be found on Spelling City.  We do not have a paid subscription but students may enjoy using the free activities to reinforce the lessons being taught at school.


STAR OF THE WEEK SCHEDULE: The star of the week schedule came home in your child's folder on Friday. In addition, I have posted it to my blog for you to reference. Let me know if you have questions.


NWEA:  We have taken our math NWEA assessment this past week and will be taking the reading portion this coming week. Please continue to have your child get plenty of rest each night and eat a healthy breakfast.  Thank you.


Back to School Night: I look forward to seeing everyone Monday, September 18th at Back to School Night.  We will meet from 6:15-7:00 p.m. Please remember this night is for adults only.  I will begin promptly at 6:15, do a quick run through of the key details of Room 104, provide a copy of my power point both on paper and on the blog, and be done by about 6:40.  After that I will stay around to answer questions.  Please note that I will not be answering any questions about your child at that time.  I am happy to answer these questions in email, in pre-arrranged meetings, or at conferences in October.  Thank you for your understanding.  


Nightly Reading:  Students should increase their nightly reading to every 15 min. each night.
