Weekly Update
November 13, 2023
Word Work: Our class will be learning about the r-controlled syllable pattern -ar this week. Words that follow this pattern include car, start, artist, and market. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns. Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week.
Math: We are currently working in Unit 2 of Illustrative Mathematics. The family resource links will help you understand what your child is learning during this unit.
Science: In our new unit, Work of Water students will explore how water shapes the Earth's surface. Students construct and use models of mountains to demonstrate that water flows downhill, and in the process, transforms huge rocks into the tiny grains of sand we find at the beach. Students will also construct and use model hills to determine the causes of erosion, and to design solutions to problems caused by erosion. Please ask your child what he or she has learned this week.
Thanksgiving Luncheon: Our Lincoln School Thanksgiving Luncheon will be next Monday, Nov. 20th. Due to space, only volunteer servers are able to join us. Thank you for your understanding.
Stuff A Truck: November 13th-18th, 2023
Our Lincoln School Student Council is excited to be leading the way in giving back to the larger Berrien County community by collecting non-perishable (canned goods, boxed dinner/pasta) food items. If you are able, simply pick up an item (or more) at the grocery store, and send it to school with your student to be donated. We collect now because there is a greater need for food around the holidays. Thanks for spreading kindness and positivity!
