Word Work: Our class will learn the /ô/ syllable pattern that makes the sound as in small, draw, boss, and thought . Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week. 

Math: Our second graders are beginning unit 6.  They will reason with shapes and their attributes and partition shapes into equal shares, building a foundation for fractions. They will relate halves, fourths, and skip-counting by 5 to tell time, and solve story problems involving the values of coins and dollars.

Extra practice at home recognizing coins and their values is appreciated.  Students using analog clocks to discuss the time of day is very valuable.  IXL is available for students to practice these skills at school and home

Word Work : This week your child will learn words that have the long-o digraph pattern.  This rule includes words like moon, snow, bowl, soak, and hoe.   The words can be found on Spelling City to practice.  Please remember to use the list that comes home to practice reading words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled.  Please do not feel your child should be able to spell all the words on this list.
