Word Work: Our class will learn the consonant + le, al, or el syllable pattern found in words like whittle, local, and nickel . Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week. 

Valentine’s Day Party:   Thank you to everyone for an amazing party on Wednesday. I appreciate Jessica Smith volunteering to organize the party and all of the parents who volunteered their time or supplies to make the party such a success. On Thursday, when we gave our favorite part of Valentine's Day, almost everyone said the party. Thank you so much!

Sarett Nature Center Field Trip: Our second graders will be traveling to Sarett Nature Center on March 7th in the morning.  We will be learning about maple sugaring and need to dress for the weather.  Parents are welcome to join us at Sarett but there is an admission fee.  More information will be coming soon.  Please email me if you are planning to attend as there is specific information you need to know.

Word Work : This week your child will learn words that have the long-o digraph pattern.  This rule includes words like moon, snow, bowl, soak, and hoe.   The words can be found on Spelling City to practice.  Please remember to use the list that comes home to practice reading words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled.  Please do not feel your child should be able to spell all the words on this list. Math: This week we will be starting Math Unit 2.  We will be adding and subtracting within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and the relationship between addition and subtraction.
