Happy New Year: I hope everyone had a wonderful vacation and is ready to return to school tomorrow!  Please remember to bring your take home folder, water bottle, and a healthy morning snack.  

*If there is snow on the ground, remember to wear boots and have snow pants if you like to get down and play in the snow.

 

Word Work: Our class will be learning about the /oi/ syllable pattern this week. Our syllable pattern makes the sound as in coy, toil, and turmoil. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week. 


Winter Gear: Please help your child enjoy the three outdoor recesses by sending him or her in warm clothing each day.  A winter coat, hat, gloves or mittens, snow pants, and boots make it possible to be comfortable and play in the snow.


Ice Skating: Thanks to our PTO and the City of St. Joseph, our Lincoln School K-5 students will be able to ice skate for free at the Howard Ice Arena on the 18th and 19th.  Our second graders will walk with their teachers to and from the ice rink. Students may get ice skates to use at the rink for free or bring their own skates in a duffle bag or brown paper bag.  Helmets and safety gear are encouraged.  Parents are welcome to join us. It is very helpful to have parents assisting students with putting on and taking off skates.  On Thursday, Jan 18th we will be leaving Lincoln School at 1:30, skating from 1:45-2:25, and returning to Lincoln at 2:50 .

Word Work : This week your child will learn words that have the long-o digraph pattern.  This rule includes words like moon, snow, bowl, soak, and hoe.   The words can be found on Spelling City to practice.  Please remember to use the list that comes home to practice reading words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled.  Please do not feel your child should be able to spell all the words on this list.
