Weekly Update
Week of February 26, 2024
Word Work: Our class will learn about compound words such as someone, cherry pie, and part-time. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns. Spelling City is ready for students to access the Unit 18 practice list for the week.
March Is Reading Month: Reading Month is almost here! Students will have fun reading books and voting on their favorite titles at school. In addition, we will be watching some book talks where authors share the work that went into writing their book. Finally, during Read Across America Week which March 4th-8th, we will have dress up days which I have listed below. This is a great time to energize your nightly reading at home. Book order information will be sent to you soon.

Sarett Nature Center Field Trip: Our second graders will be traveling to Sarett on Thursday, March 7th from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. to learn about maple sugaring. Parents are welcome to attend at a cost of $4.00 per person. Please plan on meeting your second grader at Sarett. It will be important to dress for the weather with boots since much of the time will be spent outdoors and the trail can be muddy.
